Delicious Fried Chicken (Video coming soon)

*This recipe calls for 4 pieces of chicken*

First, we will season our chicken. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Second, we will marinate our chicken in buttermilk. (If you don't have buttermilk, add one tbsp of white vinegar OR lemon juice to one cup of milk.) The amount you use depends on the size of your chicken, and where you are marinating your chicken, I marinate mine in a freezer bag. Marinate for up to 24 hours, but at least 2 hours.
When you're chicken is finished marinating, we will make a seasoned flour, which will be our crust. Use two cups of all-purpose flour in a plastic or paper bag, we will season the flour with everything we seasoned our marinade with. Shake the seasonings with the flour to distribute the seasoning throughout the flour.
Place one piece of chicken in the bag of flour and shake well until chicken is well coated in flour. When finished, leave the chicken on a rack for 15-25 minutes so the flour can set.

Fill a pan with 1-2 inches of oil or shortening (DO NOT use olive oil.) Heat the oil too 350-360 degrees Fahrenheit, but make sure the oil does not smoke. Fry the chicken for 15-20 minutes (More or less depending on size.) Make sure using a meat thermometer that your chicken is at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit for white meat, and 170 F for dark meat. Let it cool down and enjoy!

*Ingredients for marinade*
2 Cups Buttermilk
One TBSP Salt
1 1/2 TBSP Black pepper
1/2 TBSP Garlic Powder
1/2 TBSP Onion Powder
1/4 TBSP Cayenne Pepper

*Ingredients for seasoned flour*
2 cups self rising flour

1 TBSP Salt
2 TBSP Black Pepper
1 TBSP Garlic Powder
1 TBSP Onion Powder
1/2 TBSP Cayenne Pepper

Recommended oils for frying
Vegetable oil

Peanut Oil
Canola Oil

Vegetable Shortening
*Note* I dictate not to use olive oil because the smoking point is much too low to cook the chicken without smoking. It also gives off an awful taste. I recommend using shortening for taste only. Canola oil is a great oil for frying because it won't burn, and it is much healthier than other oils, however, I do not like the taste of canola. Vegetable oil is inexpensive, and is great for this dish. However, I ultimately recommended using peanut oil, it tastes great, and has health benefits, however, it is often pricy, but if you can get it, use it.
